Our  leadership do not operate the endowment with any intent to profit from its charitable activities. Furthermore, all private foundations like ours are subject to legal restrictions that prohibit them from being operated in ways that personally benefit their founders. Any financial earnings by Yendow and profits realized by the endowment’s Strategic Investment Fund charitable holdings must be used for charitable purposes. Under this structure, we hope to empower youths, educate them and help some of Nigeria’s neediest youths.

Steps to Set Up an Endowment with YENDOW:

  1. Determine the Purpose and Goals: Decide what you want the endowment to achieve. This could be funding scholarships, supporting specific programs like STEM education or entrepreneurship, or any other area that aligns with YENDOW’s mission and your interests.
  2. Contact YENDOW: Reach out to YENDOW to express your interest in establishing an endowment. You can find detailed information on how to proceed, including any minimum funding requirements and legal considerations here.
  3. Decide on the Fund Structure: You will need to decide whether the endowment will be permanently endowed (where only the income generated is used) or quasi-endowed (where the principal can also be spent under certain conditions). This decision will affect how the endowment is managed and how it supports the organization over time.
  4. Naming the Endowment: You can name the endowment after yourself, a loved one, or someone you wish to honor. This is a profound way to ensure that the honoree’s legacy is remembered and associated with positive change.
  5. Work Out the Financial Details: Establish how much you want to contribute initially and whether you will be making additional contributions over time. You might also want to consider setting up a plan for others to contribute to the endowment, such as through gifts or bequests.
  6. Formalize the Agreement: You will need to formalize your commitment through a written agreement with YENDOW. This document will outline the purpose of the endowment, the management of the funds, and any specific wishes you have regarding the use of the endowment income.
  7. Promote and Manage the Endowment: Once established, you can work with YENDOW to track the impact of your endowment and share its successes to inspire additional support from the community.
